Björn Foortse is a Research Engineer in the field of hydraulic engineering and hydroinformatics where he is currently involved in hydrodynamic modelling and the implementation of machine learning techniques in water related projects.

He graduated in Hydraulic Engineering and Water Resources Management (Double Degree) from the Technical University of Delft and the National University of Singapore in 2016. In this program he specialised in coastal engineering, dredging engineering, river engineering, fluid dynamics, breaching processes and high speed erosion. Before joining NUS he was involved in reclamation projects in the Philippines.

Honours and Awards

  • Nominee and Runner-Up for the Waterbouwprijs (Dutch Hydraulic Engineering Awards 2016)
  • Msc Double Degree Scholarship from Delft University of Technology
  • Honours Program Civil Engineering at Delft University of Technology

Research Interests

Björn is particularly interested in everything that involves sediment transport, sediment dynamics and reclamation works. In addition, he has a particular interest in water policy and machine learning applications.
